In this short tutorial, we will add protected digital download option to our website. This is the same solution we use for our plugin when you download it in your user dashboard after purchase.
What will be needed:
- Your WordPress website ready
- Cart2WP already set up the way you need it
To get started, we will need to install a new plugin called Download Monitor ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/download-monitor/ ). This will create unique download links for our digital content and protection against sharing the links. It is one of the most recommended in the WordPress community and free.
When installed and activated, there will be a new menu option called Downloads. Hover over this menu item and click on the “Add new” option.
Give a name to your downloadable and click on the Add file button. New options will be visible. As you will see we can add downloads with version control or simply change the file to a new version if needed.
Next, on the right hand sidebar tick the “Members only” option that will make sure only logged-in users are allowed to access the file. Since registration is only possible via purchasing our product, only your customers will be able to access it.
Of course you can add a description and a featured image to your download, but if nothing else is needed, simply hit the publish button!
After publishing, there will be a new information box in the top right corner that includes the URL for our file. You can use this link to place the download button anywhere for the user.
In our case, I have added the link to the image box in the Elementor template that is used as user dashboard.
That is all we needed to have login protected, unique download links with download monitoring for our customers.
